We have some exciting news about next season! Thanks to feedback form the CSA 2010 members, we are planning to improve our Farmstand CSA in several ways for 2011. With goals of meeting more of our diet, creating a healthier farm and fostering community, the following is an outline of benefits to your share in 2011:

Benefits Extended from 2010 Season

• Farmstand open for pickup 2 days per week from 2 to 7 pm
• Take what you need each week in the Farmstand from a variety of crops
• U-pick ornamental flower garden and herb garden

New Benefits for 2011 Season

• Pastured eggs (weekly)
• Pastured meat birds: chickens (2-3 times) + turkeys (Thanksgiving)
• CSA Events (voluntary, not required):
            • 2 harvest mornings
            • 1 planting day
            • 1 or 2 fall harvest days
• 2 or 3 food preservation workshops (Ex: dilly beans, pickles, sauerkraut, and tomato sauce
  or strawberry jam)
• Launch website with harvest postings, news & community boards

Taking on animals is a big next step and an essential one for a farm striving for sustainability. One of our primary goals is to decrease our purchased inputs and by bringing animals onto the land, we will be able to generate more of our fertility and decrease our need to buy compost. As an additional benefit, Members will receive eggs and meat. A Harvest List is attached which shows what we grow. For every vegetable, there are many varieties grown, i.e. six different kinds of potatoes, many different lettuces, several kinds of tomatoes, etc.

The 2011 CSA Share will be one size, priced at $925. We realize that this amount is more than last year. In an effort to be completely transparent and open about the real cost of farming, the farm budget is available for Members to review. The cost increase is due to two of our primary goals: building a healthier farm by bringing on animals and a deep commitment to paying a fair wage to farmers. We are happy to further discuss these issues with anyone.

All new members should send in their payment ASAP. Non-refundable cash or check subscription can be made in one or two payments: either $925 immediately or a deposit of $462.50 now and the remaining balance of $462.50 by April 24, 2011. Please make checks payable to "Potrero Nuevo Farm" and return the payment and the attached Membership Agreement – you can drop it off or mail it to 1045 Tunitas Creek Rd; Half Moon Bay, CA 94019.

We would like to remind you that what we are asking of the community is to support the operations of the farm, and, therefore, to gain from its bounty and share in the risks. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to growing with you in 2011.
